If the bulk is scanned images, lossless repacking can only do so much. Split the document, or re-scan at a lower DPI. A heavier compressor that re-encodes images (like Ghostscript's /ebook preset) is the next step up — we're evaluating adding one.
Does offline compression work on my phone?
Yes — the page runs in mobile browsers too. Open it once on a connection, and after that the compressor works without one, on iOS or Android.
Why is my PDF big in the first place?
Common culprits: embedded high-resolution images, fonts embedded multiple times by sloppy exporters, editing history and thumbnails, and files saved without object-stream compression. This tool fixes the last two; image bulk needs a lossy compressor.
Is the compressed PDF still a valid, normal PDF?
Yes — it's written by pdf-lib, a spec-compliant PDF implementation, and opens in every standard reader. Object streams are a core PDF 1.5 feature supported for well over a decade.
